Like so many small businesses, ours began with a simple challenge—and the determination to solve it.

It all started in the quilting studio. Shelley, a passionate quilter, struggled to get consistent stitches on her quilting frame. Her husband, David—an engineer, inventor, and natural lifelong tinkerer—was called to the workshop. A few weeks later, the very first Quilter’s Cruise Control® stitch regulator was born, and with it, the start of our little southern California company, LiTen Up.

Before long, word spread, and the quilting community wanted more. Together with Shelley’s mom, Carol, they packed up the car and hit the road—attending quilt shows up and down the West Coast, and eventually across the country. Those early days were full of long drives, late nights, and plenty of laughter, as the family shared their invention with quilters everywhere.

When the family later moved to northern Illinois, the innovation didn’t stop. The product line grew to include the QBOT® and Free Motion Assistant, and LiTen Up evolved into LiTen Up Technologies, Inc., even supplying motor controls to a major long-arm sewing machine company.

Fast forward more than 20 years, and our passion is stronger than ever: helping makers enjoy sewing and quilting with greater comfort, ease, and creativity. With deep roots in sewing machine electronics and robotics, we’re always looking for new ways to support quilters and sewists of every skill level.

Our latest creation, SIDEKICK, continues that tradition—blending modern technology with thoughtful design to make the art of sewing and quilting even more rewarding.
